JOPRO at the UC San Diego Education Innovation Expo
Semiannual event showcasing pedagogical and technological innovation
JOPRO will join faculty, students, and technologists at the 2025 UC San Diego Education Innovation Expo (May 21–22) to explore cutting-edge pedagogy and educational technologies reshaping higher education. The two-day event offered a vibrant exchange of ideas, showcasing projects aimed at enhancing creativity, access, and impact across the university and beyond.
Founder and Director Jesse Parent will deliver a talk on “JOPRO & the New Learning Ecosystem: Designing Tools and Communities to Foster Contextual, Developmental, and Trajectory-Aware Learning in Inter-/Un-disciplinary Spaces.” The talk outlines JOPRO’s evolving model as an interdisciplinary research and vocation incubator, emphasizing the need for learning systems that are historically grounded, strategically oriented, and responsive to the complex paths of 21st-century learners.
The presentation featured FrontierMap, a tool to help learners understand trajectories in emerging frontiers of study; case studies on alternative education approaches (Orthogonal Research and Education Lab and Neuromatch Academy); alongside the EdTech example of of narrative-driven initiative Plot Twisters, which center personal agency and co-designed learning in AI-mediated environments.
JOPRO’s participation will emphasize the importance of context-aware mentorship, nonlinear career scaffolding, and ethical foresight in preparing students to contribute meaningfully across academia, policy, and industry.
